Hello Charles,

The antenna best suited for the reception conditions is the HD Stacker TV antenna. The antenna can be installed aiming South/Southeast and receive one channel of every major free to air broadcast network from Evansville. If you were to use a rotor and rotate the antenna you could also receive some additional duplicate networks. The rotor would provide 1 additional ABC channel and 2 additional PBS channels.  To supply the TV through a cable length of 150 feet I suggest the AP 8700 antenna preamplifier The AP 8700 will boost the signal at the antenna and compensate for the 150 foot cable run.

Hello Mike,

Channel 2.1 WBBM CBS is the weakest station out of the Chicago area. At your location the antenna best suited to reliably receive WBBM and all of the Chicago TV stations is the HD Stacker TV antenna. WBBM broadcasts a VHF signal requiring an antenna with high VHF signal gain. The Stacker provides excellent performance when receiving both VHF and UHF signals. If the antenna will supply 1 TV without a signal splitter a signal amplifier will likely not be needed. If a signal splitter is installed a signal amplifier such as the HDA 100 may be required installed in line on the antenna side of the splitter.

If I can assist you further, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Hello Dwight,

All of the station transmitters are located to your south/southwest. All are showing strong signals except for MYTV channel 46.1 which shows a weak signal.

To receive all station except perhaps MYTV I recommend the EZ HD antenna. Install the antenna aiming SSW. Along with the antenna use the HDA 100 amplifier installed in line on the antenna side of the signal splitter.

To receive all channels and insure the reception of MYTV I recommend the HD Stacker antenna installed aiming SSW. Use the HDA 100 as described above.

Hello Richard,

You have two VHF frequency channels and one of the channels (4.1) is low band VHF. To receive the low band VHF channel 4 and all other channels I recommend the HD 7010 TV antenna. This antenna performs well on low band VHF, high band VHF and UHF. Install the antenna aiming north-northwest. At your location the antenna will work well in the attic or outside so the choice is yours.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

8. Include any additional information you feel may be helpful when evaluating your reception conditions.: I have tall trees around me.

Hello Cassidy,

If you can install the antenna above your neighbors roof line to the east the EZ HD TV antenna is a good choice. If the antenna doesn't have a clear shot to the east channel 2 CBS may be a problem. A few trees shouldn't be a problem but if your neighbors house is in the signal path it will likely effect the reception on CBS 2.1.

If a signal splitter will not be in use a signal amplifier should not be needed.

Cassidy, if you have any questions please don't hesitate to reply. We're here to help!

7. Approximately how long will the coax cable run be from the antenna to the TV. If a signal splitter is in use how long will the cable run be from the antenna to the furthest TV: about 15 - 20 feet.

Hi Bradley,

There are both VHF and UHF signals available. The TV transmitting location is to your East. The signals are rated moderately strong at your location. The problem channel is WBBM CBS. In the attic to insure the reliable reception of CBS I recommend the HD Stacker TV antenna. All other channels can be received with the EZ HD antenna but WBBM will likely require the Stacker antenna. I wish WBBM would up there power to match the other channels but so far it's not happening.

Install the antenna aiming East at about 105 degrees.

If you have any questions please ask.

Hi Mike,

The TV transmitting towers are in just about every direction from your location. Unfortunately some of the signals are too weak to use an omnidirectional antenna. The antenna best suited for the reception conditions is the EZ HD TV antenna. Along with the antenna use the AP 8780 antenna preamplifier. The AP 8780 will enhance performance and deliver a strong signal to each TV location in your home.

The EZ HD is a directional antenna and will require rotation to receive all available channels. I wish I could recommend an omni antenna but I just don't think it will work.

If you have any further questions please ask.

Best TV antenna for:
Brighton, Illinois 62021

I will be using two televisions. I just bought a new HDTV and canceled my dish satellite, we are now using a small indoor antenna, but the reception is marginal at best. I live in Brighton, Illinois at _______ zip 62021. Please advise me of the proper TV antenna selection. My roof peak is 15 - 18 feet off of the ground. Thanks, Dwight.

A great choice for the location is the EZ HD TV antenna. Install the narrower end of the antenna aiming SSW. Along with the antenna use the AP 8700 antenna preamplifier. This combination will provide outstanding TV reception at your location.

7. Include any additional information you feel may be helpful when evaluating your reception conditions.: The antenna we bought works great. This is for my daughter.

Hi Rick,

Happy to hear your antenna is working great.

At your daughters location my recommendation is for the HD Stacker TV antenna
. The CBS signal channel 2 can be more difficult to receive compared to the other Chicago channels. We have found the HD Stacker does a very good job receiving channel 2 in her area. Along with the antenna use the AP 8700 antenna preamplifier. The AP 8700 will enhance the overall performance and boost the signal providing good signal strength to both TV location.

If the antenna is installed in a stationary position aiming East/Southeast it will receive all of the Chicago channels.  However, if a
rotor were in use it will receive both Madison and Milwaukee channels in addition to the Chicago channels.

If you have any further questions please ask.

Hi Michael,

The tough channel to receive will be channel CBS 2.1 WBBM. This channel broadcasts a weaker signal than the rest of the channels and it's a VHF signal. The antenna best suited to get WBBM and the remainder of the Chicago channels is the HD Stacker TV antenna. Along with the antenna use the AP 8700 antenna preamplifier. The AP 8700 will enhance the all around performance and boost the antenna signal and provide a strong signal to all 3 to 4 TV locations in your home.

The antenna should be installed aiming East/Southeast

Ask your question: My house located in 60045, Lake forest IL. With the HD double stacker would I be able to receive all channels specially channel 2 CBS?

Thanks,
Reza

Hi Reza,

Yes, The HD Stacker will receive channel 2 CBS WBBM at your location plus all of the other Chicago TV channels. We have done a lot of research pertaining to the reception of WBBM CBS 2 in Chicago. This station is the weakest major broadcast channel in Chicago and the hardest to receive. Compounding the problem is the station broadcast a VHF TV signal requiring a larger antenna to receive the signal properly and most people buy the smallest antenna available. The HD Stacker provides very good gain on the VHF as well as UHF signals and can be used even further North of your location and still receive channel 2 WBBM. We have customer's North of Racine receiving CBS 2 WBBM using the HD Stacker antenna. In most areas of metropolitan Chicago the EZ HD antenna is a good choice to receive all of Chicago channels including WBBM.

Denny

Best TV antenna for:
Chicago, IL 60626

Hi,

I was ready to purchase an antenna from you but wanted to double check before I take the plunge. I'm located in Chicago specifically at _________ in 60626. I'm less than 9 miles from most signals and want to place the antenna in the attic. My house is already wired for cable TV, so I want to hook the TV antenna to the existing wiring for easy installation. There are 6 hookups throughout the house but only two will be used.

Thank you so much and your website is a great source of information.

T.

Hi T,

All of the main transmitters are to your South. The signals are rated to be quite strong at your location.

Throughout the Chicago area our customers report having great success using the EZ HD TV antenna. The EZ HD antenna is a VHF and UHF frequency antenna. Unlike a lot of smaller antennas that don't receive the VHF signals the EZ HD provides excellent signal gain across the entire Upper VHF band and UHF frequencies. This is very important if you want to receive CBS WBBM.

Install the EZ HD with the narrower end of the antenna aiming South. Before you install in the attic make certain building materials such as brick, metal, foil barrier, etc... are not in South path to the transmitter.

To supply the multiple TV hook ups signal amplification will be beneficial. I suggest the HDA 100 signal distribution amplifier be install in line on the TV antenna side of the signal splitter. The HDA 100 will boost the signal and drive it to all TV hook up location in your home.

Denny

Best TV antenna for:
Chicago, Illinois 60064

Hi Denny, my zip is 60062. I'm trying to get HDTV reception in Chicago. I currently have an amplified Lacrosse antenna. I purchased it a few months ago. It works okbut a couple of channels break up occasionally and CBS 2 WBBM rarely comes in. I have tried everything I can think of including relocating the antenna, Am I missing something? What I can't understand is why do all of the other channels come in except CBS channel 2? If you can help I'm ready to try anything.

Thanks in advance,
Larry

Hi Larry,

There's a very simple reason why you're not receiving WBBM the CBS affiliate is Chicago. The WBBM transmitter is broadcasting a VHF signal while all other stations are UHF signal channels. The Lacroose antenna you have like most small, eye appealing antennas is not designed to receive VHF signal. This is why you're not getting CBS. The WBBM signal is VHF frequency and the antenna you have is primarily for UHF signals. The reason many antenna manufactures are dropping the VHF performance from antennas is to make the antenna more eye appealing. Simply put, VHF antennas have to be a little larger and a little less eye appealing to work good. Many of the antenna manufactures know the majority of consumers when purchasing an antenna will put eye appeal ahead of antenna performance.

To receive WBBM in Chicago plus all of the others channels you need an antenna that performs well on both the VHF as well as UHF signal bands. With the help of some engineers we developed the EZ HD antenna. This antenna is designed to be as small as an antenna can be and still provide solid VHF and UHF performance. About 75% of the EZ HD size is designated to the reception of VHF signal and that's the way an antenna has to be designed to get good VHF signal reception.

From your location aim the EZ HD antenna South/Southeast. If the antenna will be connected to only 1 TV (no signal splitter) a signal amplifier should not be needed.

If you intend to use a signal splitter in the system to divide the TV signal to multiple location within your home a signal amplifier will likely be needed to offset the effects of dividing the signal. A good amplifier choice to go with the EZ HD antenna is the HDA 100 signal distribution amplifier. Install the HDA 100 in line before (antenna side) of the signal splitter.

If you have any further questions about the EZ HD antenna or the WBBM signal reception don't hesitate to contact me.

Best Regards,
Denny

Deerfield 60015

Denny, We live in Deerfield, Illinois and would like to get better reception by replacing our old roof mount antenna.  We would like to add reception from stations in Wisconsin to those we already receive from Chicago. Thanks for your suggestions.
Keith

Greetings Keith,
I took a look at the channels available at your location and I recommend the HD Stacker TV antenna along with a HDP 269 TV antenna preamplifier. I believe this combination will provide excellent reception at you location for both Chicago and Milwaukee stations. However, because of the varying directions of the TV stations a antenna rotor Will be required to aim the antenna North for Milwaukee and SSE for Chicago.

If I can assist you further please don't hesitate to contact me.

Hello Cathy,

Both the Rockford and Chicago channels are available at your location. The antenna best suited to meet the reception conditions is the HD Stacker TV antenna. Along with the antenna I recommend the AP 8780 antenna preamplifier. The antenna can be installed aiming east to receive the Chicago stations or north-northwest to receive the Rockford stations. Another option is to install an antenna rotor giving you the option to turn the antenna to either location and receive both the Chicago and Rockford stations.

If you have any question please feel free to contact me.

Best TV antenna for:

Hi people, what a great site. I've learned more in 10 minutes here than I have all over the internet. I'm a retired firefighter and have to do things myself, (out in the country).  I live in galesburg ill, 61401 and am interested in the ms-2000 and the eave mount. It's pretty level here and if anything we are on a hilltop.  Most stations are located within 35 mi. Also does this antenna need to be grounded with an arrestor?  I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate your site. I've been wasting weeks.
Sincerely, Rick

Greetings Rick,

Thank you for the kind words about our site.
I took a look at the data at your location. Unless you have some major terrain problems, and you indicated you did not, I think the MS 2000 omni directional TV antenna would be a great choice to receive the local channels at your location.

Also, the Peoria channels are available in the Galesburg area. If you want to receive all of the local channels and the Peoria channels I recommend the HD Stacker TV antenna. Along with the HD Stacker use the AP 8700 TV antenna preamplifier. Because of the varying directions to the TV stations a rotor will be needed to aim the antenna to the appropriate direction.

Yes you should use an arrestor on the coax cable along with properly grounded the mount. Always follow the manufactures instruction. It won't improve the reception but it can make things a little safer.
As a retired firefighter you probably have no problems with heights. Thanks for being a firefighter.

If I can assist you further please don't hesitate to contact me.

Considering the strength of the signals reaching your location I don't think the attic location is an option.

The antenna equipment best suited for the reception conditions is the HD Stacker TV antenna and the AP 8780 antenna preamplifier. This combination will provide reliable reception on all of the Chicago stations including WBBM. The antenna should be installed aiming North/Northeast.

Hi Joe,

WBBM is the weakest signal in Chicago and if any channel isn't received it's WBBN. The solution we have found is the HD Stacker TV antenna. This antenna provides excellent signal gain on the WBBM VHF frequency band. It is also a good idea to use a signal amplifier installed in line on the antenna side of the signal splitter.  A very good amplifier choice is the HDA 100 amplifier. If a signal splitter were not in use the amplifier would not be needed. I'm confident the HD Stacker will receive the WBBM signal at your location.

Hi Steve,

The WBBM CBS signal is the weakest signal in the Chicago market. To receive all channels including WBBM I recommend the HD Stacker TV antenna. Our customer's have tried the smaller EZ HD TV antenna in the attic in your area and they have reported problems with the WBBM signal. However, some of these same customer's returned the EZ HD and replaced it with the HD Stacker and report excellent reception in the attic on all channels including WBBM. Those who didin't return the EZ HD moved it outside and report good reception using the EZ HD antenna.

Along with the antenna I suggest the AP 8700 antenna preamplifier. The combination of HD Stacker and AP 8700 will provide outstanding reception. Install the antenna aiming SSE to receive the Chicago channels or North to receive Milwaukee channels. Another option is to use a rotor and receive both Chicago and Milwaukee channels.

8. Include any additional information you feel may be helpful when evaluating your reception conditions.: location is slightly lower in elevation than surrounding area - not a valley but an old morainal depression

Hi Paul,

The weakest signal reaching your area is WBBM CBS channel 2.1. If it weren't for this channel you could use the EZ HD antenna. However, to insure the reception of CBS I recommend the HD Stacker TV antenna. Install the antenna aiming ENE at about 50 degrees on the compass. When using the HD Stacker antenna you shouldn't need a signal amplifier.

Hello Tim,

The reception conditions are less than perfect at your location. All of the major free to air network stations are available but the signals are rated weak. There are both VHF and UHF signals available. The antenna best suited to receive weak VHF and UHF signals is the HD Stacker TV antenna. This antenna is a high performance antenna that is effective at receiving weaker signals. In weak signal areas it's always a benefit to use a preamplifier. A very good choice when supplying 1 TV is the AP 8700 preamplifier. The TV transmitters are located to the North and to the East which will require a rotor to aim the antenna.

If I can assist you further please don't hesitate to contact me.

Hi Brad,

As you probably know the TV signals reaching your location are not strong there what is referred to as "fringe" signals. Considering everything my recommendation is for the HD Stacker TV antenna along with the AP 8275 antenna preamplifier. This combination will provide outstanding performance and longevity. The TV transmitters are in various directions requiring a rotor for best results.

Hello Karl,

The TV reception is a little complicated. The TV transmitters are located SSW, ESE and North. A couple of the signals are too weak to use an omnidirectional antenna. I think the best option under the circumstances is to use the HD Stacker TV antenna. In most cases like this the HD Stacker when aimed Southeast would receive all of the channels even the station to the North. With that said, I still think a rotor should be installed. Using the rotor to aim the antenna I think you'll find the sweet spot to the SE where all channels come in without further antenna adjustment. However, there may be times when the reception conditions deteriorate to the point where having the ability to rotate the antenna would be beneficial.

When supplying 1 TV without a signal splitter in line a signal amplifier should not be needed. To supply multiple TVs I recommend the HDA 100 amplifier installed in line on the antenna side of the signal splitter.

Unfortunately I am unaware of an installer in your area.

If I can assist you further, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Greetings,

The TV transmitting towers are located in various directions from the location. The antenna best suited to meet the reception conditions is the MS 1000 omni-directional antenna. This antenna receives signals from all directions and will not require antenna adjustment when changing channels. I do think the HDP 269 antenna preamplifier will be a definate benefit by providing a stronger more reliable signal.

Hi Denny,

I live at __________ Palos Park, IL. 60464. I am wanting to drop cable and go to an antenna. A friend of mine purchased from you about a year ago and is very happy with the results. His location is about 20 miles from mine. What antenna do you recommend for me?

Jason

Hi Jason,

No doubt the EZ HD TV antenna. This antenna is in use all around the Chicago area and our customers report excellent results. Install the TV antenna in a stationary position aiming North/Northeast. If the antenna will supply one TV without the use of a signal splitter signal amplification should not be needed. If a signal splitter will be in use install the HDA 100 distribution amplifier before the signal splitter on the antenna side of the splitter.

I'm very confident the recommended equipment will provide outstanding reception at your location.

Denny

Hi Bruce,

The TV signals are both VHF and UHF and are rated from strong to weak in strength with transmitters located in various directions. The antenna best suited for the reception conditions is the HD Stacker TV antenna To receive all of the available station will require antenna rotation. If you don't already have a rotor the Channel Master 9521A is a good choice. For the absolute best results a preamplifier such as the AP 8700 preamplifier is recommended. We have a positive HD Stacker customer reception report from Clinton so I'm confident my recommendation will work great for you.

Hi Tom,

Installed outdoors the
EZ HD TV antenna is a very good choice for the location. Aim the antenna ENE at about 55 degrees magnetic. This will provide reception from all of the Chicago area free channels. To supply multiple TV's will likely require signal amplification. If you don't already have a signal amplifier I suggest the HDA 100 amplifier. Install the HDA 100 in line on the antenna side of the signal splitter.

This combination will provide reception from all major broadcast networks and most minor networks. Chicago offers a good variety of broadcast TV.

Hello Rachael,

The antenna best suited for the reception conditions is the HD Stacker TV antenna. Along with the antenna I recommend the AP 8780 antenna preamplifier. The AP 8780 will boost the antenna signal and deliver a strong signal to all 5 TV locations in your home.

The antenna can be installed in a stationary position aiming west/southwest and receive all of the St Louis channels. There is a second FOX to the North and a second PBS channel to the SSE. Both FOX and PBS are available from St Louis. If you want to receive these two additional duplicate network channels a rotor will be required so you can aim the antenna.

If you have any questions please eel free to reply.

GREAT GOING! --  I looked forever and finally found an old flyer from an order years ago, checked the web, Denny is still the antenna guy!

75 mph winds didn't bother the 20+ year old winegard, the broken guy and sudden stop sure put the bend in things. My zip is 60962.  The east central Illinois area is pretty flat, all farmland.  I'm rural located, 2 story mounting height, a few trees in yard taller than installation. The old setup was rotor, antenna, mast mount preamp, 40 feet good 75 ohm to preamp power supply, split to fm, 2 TV's on 20 foot run.  It all goes up new. What would you recommend?

Thanks
Joseph

Greetings Joseph,

Still here, just doing business a little differently. The days of newspaper classified advertising and mailing flyer's are long gone. I am really surprised how many people from those days find us on the internet.

Your location has a tremendous amount of channels available with the right equipment. With all those channels out there in the 60 to 90 mile range I recommend the HD Stacker TV antenna.

The best preamplifier choice for your application is the Winegard AP 8700 antenna preamplifier. As you probably know the TV stations are in varying directions requiring a rotor so you can aim the antenna to the appropriate direction.

If I can assist you further please don't hesitate to contact me.

Hello Brian,

There are two good antenna choices at your location.

1. To receive the Davenport stations use the EZ HD TV antenna. Install the antenna aiming NNW. Along with the antenna I recommend the AP 8700 antenna preamplifier. The AP 8700 will enhance the overall performance and boost the signal to both TV locations in your home. This system will receive ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, PBS, CW plus all sub channels offered by these stations.

2. To receive the Davenport, Peoria and Iowa City stations use the HD Stacker TV antenna. Along with the antenna again use the AP 8700 preamplifier. To receive the stations from the various directions will require an antenna rotor so you can aim the antenna appropriately.

If I can assist you further, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Hi Dave,

Considering the signal strength of the channels at your location and when you factor in the trees I would go with the HD Stacker TV antenna. Plus WBBN CBS signal is weaker than most of the channels and by using the Stacker it will insure you maintain the CBS signal. Install the antenna aiming East.

I don't think you'll need a signal amplifier if only a 2 way signal splitter is in use.

If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me.

The antenna best suited to meet the reception conditions is the HD Stacker TV antenna . Along with the antenna use the AP 8700 antenna preamplifier. The AP 8700 will enhance the overall performance and boost the signal to insure a strong signal reaches the 3 TV locations in your home. To receive all available channels the antenna will require rotation the appropriate direction. South for ABC, NBC and MYTV networks. WSW for CBS and FOX and WNW for PBS. Hello Tony,

At your location the Chicago, Milwaukee and Rockford channels are available. Most of the signals are rated moderate in strength. The antenna best suited for the reception conditions is the HD Stacker TV antenna . If the antenna is installed aiming SSE it will receive the Chicago station. NNE will receive Milwaukee and West will receive Rockford. Another option is to install a TV antenna rotor that would allow you to aim the antenna and receive the stations from Chicago, Milwaukee and Rockford.

Along with the antenna I recommend the AP 8700 antenna preamplifier. The AP 8700 will boost the antenna signal delivering a strong signal to all 4 TV locations in your home.

If I can assist you further, please don't hesitate to contact me.
