Properly Grounding the EZ HD Antenna

All TV antennas that are mounted outdoors should be properly grounded. Antennas mounted indoors (attic etc.) do not require grounding.

To properly ground an antenna requires 2 ground wires be ran of at least 10 gauge size.

The first wire is connected to the antenna mount. This can be done by securing the wire under a bolt of the mount or a ground clamp can be used to connect the wire to the mount.

The second wire is connected to the ground block (also called discharge unit). The ground block should be installed on the coax cable antenna down lead at a point just before the coax cable enters your home.

Both ground wires should then be ran and connected to a suitable ground such as a ground rod. The incoming electrical service to your home should have a ground rod. If this ground rod is convenient it may be used as the grounding source for both grounding wires. If not a separate rod may be driven into the ground at a more convenient location.

Left picture shows the ground wire, ground block and ground rod. The wire on the left in the picture runs from the ground block to the ground rod. The wire on the right is coming down from the antenna mount and is connected to the ground rod.

Right pictures shows the ground wire being connected to the mast pipe using a ground strap.
