My home is a single story, block construction with vynal siding. It is often breezy here with the prevailing wind coming from the E-NE. I am surrounded by large trees on all sides except for on the S-SW side. There are no tall buildings close by and no high voltage power lines that I know of.

After studying your very informative web-site, I am thinking about either the MS 2000 or the HD 7082 with a rotor.
My roof peak is about 14 ft from ground level. Using the tri-pod mount, How high up should I go with the antenna?

A. Even though the TV transmitter locations are nearby the signal strength of the stations are somewhat weak, probably due to signal obstruction trees, hills, etc.... All of the analog transmitters but one are in the same direction northeast. ABC channel 25 is southwest. All of the digital transmitters are in the same direction (northeast) including channel 25. Considering the signal strength in your area I recommend the Winegard HD 7082P TV antenna. This antenna will insure quality reception on all of the channels. Along with the antenna I suggest the Winegard AP 8700 antenna preamplifier. This combination will provide excellent reception on all of the Jacksonville stations.

For analog reception you will need an antenna rotor to turn the antenna from the northeast where the majority of the channels are to the southwest for ABC 25 is. If it were me and I didn't already have a digital TV I would purchase a new TV or a digital set top tuner for my analog TV and forget the rotor. As I mentioned the ABC 25 digital transmitter is located to your NE with the rest of the transmitters and a rotor would not be required. In February of 2009 all TV's will either need a digital tuner built-in or have a set top digital tuner to receive the stations. It's your choice which way you choose to go, digital or antenna rotor. The equipment will receive either one very well.

To complete the installation you will need the tripod you mentioned, I suggest the 5 foot tripod for this antenna. A mast pipe is required, installed in the tripod to support the antenna, a 5 foot mast pipe is plenty. I recommend that you properly ground the antenna system. To do this run a ground wire from the tripod mount to a suitable ground such as a ground rod. A ground block should be install on the coax cable before it enters your home. A ground wire should be ran from the ground block to a ground.

You will also need a short length of coax cable to go from the antenna output to the preamplifier input. We offer a 2.5 foot piece for this purpose. A piece to go from the preamplifier output to the ground block and another piece to go from the ground block indoors to the power injector. The power injector is included with the preamplifier and requires a 110v electrical outlet. Run coax from the power injector output to the TV or to a signal splitter and from the splitter outputs to each TV.

You may want to consider cable fasteners to secure the cable as you run it. electrical black tape works well to secure the cable to the mast pipe and mount.

If you will be installing a rotor for analog reception I recommend the Channel master 9521. A rotor wire will also be needed to run from the rotor motor at the TV antenna indoors to the rotor control unit.

The set up looks very simple; a red, white and yellow cord plugged into red, white and yellow ports, antenna plugged into the "ANT IN" on the back of the tuner, the switch on the back of the tuner is in the "CVBS" position and the DC power supply plugged in. New batteries in the remote, press the power button, press the menu button and nothing! Press other buttons, change channels, change TV's, put it before the VCR, remove the VCR. Still I get nothing.

The antenna system works great for all but one of my analog channels but that's was to be expected because it's about 180' from where the antenna is pointing.

Did you set the TV input to the proper setting? The input where you connected the Yellow, Red and White cable is called a particular input on the back of the TV, video 1, 2 Etc... The TV has to be set to that particular input in order to receive the signal from the tuner. This setting may be able to be changed on the remote by pressing a TV/video button, input button Etc... or you may have to go into the menu of the TV to change this setting.

I'm pleased to report that the unit works just fine.
I am really impressed with the way the unit works. I get all kinds of channels now and the picture quality is stunning considering the set that it's attached to.
