TV Antenna Selection for Vermont

Hi,
I live in Bristol, vt 05443. Do you have anything that can bring in the
local stations? I'm not sure which mountains may be in the way of the
xmitters, which are on Mt Mansfield in Underhill vt and Terry mountain in
Peru, NY.

According to my information TV reception at your location is difficult. Using the data available to me I believe you can receive 3 to 4 channels. The stations are WCAX CBS channel 3, WETK PBS channel 33, WVNY ABC channel 22 all from Burlington in a direction at 37 degrees. Also WPTZ NBC channel 5 from North Pole may also be available by rotating the antenna to 329 degrees. More channels may be available but I am not confident enough to suggest them.

We live in northern Vermont, up on the side of a mountain. We get some strong winds. We have been putting up the best antenna that Radio Shack sells, but they are getting blown apart. Do you have an antenna that will stand up to the stronger winds? We need to have one that will bring the farthest distance due to the mountains.

Without bashing Radio Shack their antennas are known throughout the industry as poorly constructed antennas. The antenna you are describing for your needs is the Winegard HD 7084P TV antenna. These antennas are known to last twenty years plus and are built considerably better than the Radio Shack brand. It has about 30% more gain (receiving power) than even the biggest R.S. antenna and is actually smaller in length. If you use a antenna preamplifier (a two-part antenna booster) you will probably have to replace that since the 7084 utilizes a 75ohm (coax cable) output for improved reception. If you're not using an antenna preamplifier I would highly recommend the Winegard AP 8700 antenna preamplifier (booster). A quality preamplifier can dramatically improve reception on hard to get channels.
One other trick to increasing the longevity of an TV antenna is a stable mount. The less the antenna wiggles and moves in the wind the longer it will last. Over a period time even a quality antenna will get metal fatigue resulting in a shortened lifespan.

I live in Northwestern Vermont. I would like to install the highest quality TV antenna system I can. We do have an HDTV and older analog TVs. We live about 30 miles from the nearest transmitters (Swanton, Vermont) and have a relatively clear shot at one of the them (located in Plattsburgh, NY) -- the others are somewhat indirect. In the past, we were also able to receive Canadian programming from Montreal quite well. We have large trees surrounding our house so, I would like to install an antenna on our barn which requires a 200' run to our TV (the barn offers much less intereference from the trees). We did this with out satellite provider and we received a great signal from there vs what we could get from our house. What would you recommend for the best possible installation: antenna, boosters, rotors, cable etc.

The absolute best equipment for long range reception under the conditions you describe is the Winegard HD 7084P VHF/UHF digital TV antenna along with an Channel Master 7777 antenna preamplifier. The antenna offers superior signal gain across the entire TV broadcasting band width. It's also very well built, made in the USA in Burlington IA. The amplifier is very low noise with ample boost to overcome the signal loss that will occur making that 200' run. This combination to the best of my knowledge can’t be beat for quality and deep fringe long range reception. I also recommend that you install RG 6 quad shield with a solid copper center coax cable for best results. This coax cable is available in our store. Dear Sirs,
I live in Westford Vermont. ________ road .. I am presently using a Radio Shack outdoor antenna in the attic. I receive channels 3,5,22 and 33 without rotating the antenn Reception of ch 3 has lots of electrical noise. Ch 5 has similar noise Ch22 and 33 are reasonable. What antenna and amplifier would you recommend? Should I mount it on the chimney with a rotator? Or is the attic fine? (Single story home). Will the antenna you recommend be okay for HDTV later?

I took a look at your stations. For best results at your location I recommend the HD 7080P analog/digital TV antenna. This antenna has good front to back ratio. What this means is when the antenna is pointed at the stations it will reject the electrical interference from the sides and back. Radio Shack antennas have poor front to back ratios, so poor they won't even publish them. I also recommend the Winegard AP 8700 antenna preamplifier that will clear up channels 22 and 33. I do recommend mounting the antenna outside and since your channels are in different directions a antenna rotor would be necessary for best results.
