Denny-
I'm somewhat of a novice in the area of satellite TV;antennas and need your help. Basically, I have left my cable company and picked up Directv. I am not happy with my local TV station selection they offer. Basically they will only give me the Providence, RI local stations and I prefer the Boston, MA channels. Both are easily accessible utilizing an outdoor antenna.
What do you recommend I do?  I was thinking of purchasing an HDTV satellite clip on antenna and feed it into a separate video onto my TV (65" pioneer Elite)  What do you think?  Please recommend what I should purchase and its basic installation.  I will from your site.
Thanks.Todd

Greetings Todd,
>
I have tried the type of antenna you are describing and each time had less than acceptable results. As a matter of fact I came across a review for a Terk satellite clip on antenna last night. The review I believe came from keyes.com but I would have to search it out to say for sure. They had nothing good to say about it except it was easy to install. If I can find the review later I will send the address.
To give you an honest suggestion for an antenna would you please send me your zip code so I may examine the stations at your location. I will be waiting for your reply.
Best Regards,
Denny

Found it
This dish clip on antenna is advertised a lot recently. Now, you should recognize this as a twisted folded dipole. Don't expect a lot of this form of dipole. It is, possibly, not better than rabbit ears, in that you cannot move it for best reception. It is outdoors, away from your TV, so maybe it could be better than an indoor antenna, if you are lucky. You will note the similarity to the twin lead type dipole, except you can't move this baby for best signal, or adjust for wavelength. If your reception is less than ideal, don't blame me! Uhg. The only thing good about this antenna is that it's easy to install. Source www.kyes.com

Denny,
Thanks for your quick reply and advice. I really appreciate it. My zip code is 02769. If you have any suggestion on the best way for me to set myself up with the Boston local stations please let me know what I need to do and get. Thanks again.

Todd,
After viewing the channels available at your location I do have some advice. First your Providence towers are within 4 miles of your location and that can present a problem. Your to close to those channels to use The MS 2000 omnidirectional antenna. Your local channels will overload that antenna and you will have multipath issues.
>
Here's my suggestion for good quality reception at your location. You will need to use two antennas or install a rotor.
Without a rotor, install a Winegard PR 7000 TV antenna pointed at 330 degrees for your Providence channels. Install a PR 7015 TV antenna with a Winegard AP 8700 Pre-amplifier with the antenna pointed at 18 degrees for your Boston Channels.
The installation would go like this. The 7010 would feed into an antenna combiner up near the antennas. The 7015 would feed into the pre-amplifier and then into the combiner. From the combiner indoors to the pre-amplifier power supply and then to the TV or TV's. This may sound complicated but its really not.
>
With a rotor install the PR 7015 with the above amplifier and rotate the antenna to the desired direction. It's your choice, I believe either method would provide very good reception for you Todd. Anything less than a directional antenna could and probably would result in multipath (reflected signal) and or co-channel interference(local channels interfering with distant channel reception).

I am very interested in installing a TV antenna that would work in my area  I live in Westport Ma 02790 and down from ________ rd. In fact at the bottom of ______ Ln. Which is lower than _______ Rd. Some time ago I installed a regular local bought antenna and got no useable reception.  I am only looking for regular programing
Thank you

Greetings,
I took a look at the channels in your area, distance, direction etc... You have a couple of choices at your location.
The least expensive system to receive at least one of each network, ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, and PBS would be the Winegard HD 7080P VHF/UHF/HD digital TV antenna pointed at approximately 330 degrees. I would also recommend anWinegard AP 8700 antenna preamplifier. An antenna rotor would not be required since the above channels are generally in the same direction.
>
Your second option would offer in addition to the channels already mentioned. CW, i, IND, SAH and all of the Boston channels. This system would require an HD 7082P VHF/UHF/HD digital TV antenna along with the AP 8700 antenna preamplifier and a rotor to turn your antenna to various positions. Our best rotor is the Channel Master 9521.
I believe either choice would provide excellent results at your location.
If I can assist you further please don't hesitate to contact me,
Best Regards,
Denny
