Appleton 04862

Hi I live in Appleton Maine 04862.  My address is __________ Rd   I want to be able to receive the Portland Maine (2, 6)  stations as well as Bango stations (5, 13).  Basically long range over 100 miles reception. Please recommend an antenna.
Thanks so much.
Anne

Greetings Anne,
I examined your stations from both Bangor and Portland. I recommend the Winegard HD 7082P TV antenna along with the AP 8700 antenna preamplifier. I believe this combination would provide you with excellent reception at your location. The stations are in different directions from your location and would require an antenna rotor so you could aim your antenna at the stations for best results.

Hi,
I would like to find out what kind of antenna I could use to receive the local tv stations from Bangor, Maine or Portland, Maine.  I live at _________ Road in Jonesport, Maine.  I have been researching the EZ Dish UHF/VHF antenna to attach to my satellite dish, but I cannot find any information on it except it has a range of 35 miles...Please help a novice do-it-yourselfer....Also, if I can use this type of antenna, would I need a pre-amp or some other amplifier?
Either way, thank you for your recommendations,
Carmine

Greetings Carmine,
I examined your location and the stations available to you! If you purchase any type of compact antenna such as the EZ-dish or even any we sell I think you will be disappointed. You live in a difficult reception area that will need a high gain (long range) antenna system to provide satisfactory reception. According to the information provided to me the terrain in your area is poor for TV reception.
Calais offers 3 channels PBS, NBC, and CBS at a distance of nearly 40 miles.
Bangor offers ABC, NBC, TBN, CBS, at varying distances the furthest being 74 miles.
Portland doesn't even show as a possibility at your location.
Here's what I see, you can get PBS, NBC, and CBS from Calais. The only thing Bangor offers that you don't already get from Calais is ABC. The ABC transmitting tower from Bangor is about 56 miles from your location. Considering your terrain, I recommend the Winegard HD 7082P VHF/UHF/HD-digital antenna along with the AP 8700 antenna preamplifier and an antenna rotor.  If you didn't care to receive the ABC and other channels from Bangor I recommend a Winegard HD 7080P TV antenna pointed at approximately 40 degrees to Calais, along with the AP 8700 preamplifier. An antenna rotor would not be necessary with this application since all of the channels from Calais are in the same direction.
I did check out the EZ dish antenna. It uses diplexing to combine the satellite signal and the antenna signal to the same coax cable lead-in wire. Because of the signal loss created by the use of diplexer's, I never recommend this method unless it is absolutely necessary. Also it only works with single eye dishes and must be mounted at or near the dish, and dishes are not usually installed at a location that is best suited for over the air TV reception.
