I want to get a quality antenna to receive hdtv and eliminate my satalite service. My zip code is 06111, Hartford, Connecticut. From your web site I have narrowed my choice to three antennas and prefer to not use a rotator. 1) a winegard HD7082 for quality and strong signal. 2) a winegard MS2000 for ease of instalation and 3) a vhf antenna for my channel 8 and a uhf antenna for all other station installed on the same mast. Which would be my best choice for quality reception. Thanks for your help and all the info I've already read at your web site. Ralph.

Greetings Ralph,

Over the air HDTV is awesome!

Because you have several channels less than 10 miles away I would rule out the MS 2000. The MS 2000 most likely would struggle with signal overload issues and you would probably experience digital signal drop out. I would also rule out two antennas this can many times cause some of the same issues. I would be afraid you would experience cross modulation in your digital tuner using two antennas in that manner (one station interfering with another). Also according to the FCC when the digital transition is complete in 2009 you will have two VHF channels.
>
Your stations are approximately 60 degrees apart. I believe you can use the HD 7082 TV antenna aimed somewhere between the two locations and receive them all. You may or may not need a preamplifier. If you do the amplifier of choice would be the Winegard HD 269 antenna preamplifier it's designed specificly for your conditions. I would try it without the preamplifier unless it would be difficult to add one at the antenna at a later date if so I would recommend a preamplifier from the start.

UPDATE:
The above recommendation was made about 3 years ago. Since that time the HD Stacker antenna has been designed and is now on the market. My recommendation now would be for the HD Stacker antenna. See the HD Stacker antenna

Denny,

1) Address: 141 Tolland Tpke, Willington, CT 06279
2) 3 TV locations with the longest run of cable at +/- 120 ft from the antenna
3) Yes, we will be using the antenna for analog reception prior to the switch-over.
4) I intend to mount the antenna using a gable mount at the west side of my house.
5) There are two large trees at the very SW and NW corners of my property.  The sight line between the trees is clear.  There are high tension power lines about 1/4 mile west of my house but they are lower than my roof line (in a valley).

Aaron,

According to the reception data the EZ-HD TV antenna is a good choice for digital reception but not for analog. Your area CBS is broadcasting their analog signal on channel 3. The EZ-HD antenna is designed to receive channels 7 and higher where most all digital channels broadcast. The lowest digital channel in your area is ABC broadcasting digitally on channel 10. If you will be using the antenna for analog reception then I suggest the HD 7080P TV antenna. This antenna is designed to receive channel 2 - 69.  In a nutshell, if you will use the antenna for analog reception and digital reception later choose the HD 7080P. If you will use the antenna for digital reception now choose the EZ-HD.

The antenna can be installed in a stationary position with the narrower end of the antenna pointing West. Along with the antenna I suggest the AP 8275 mast mounted preamplifier. This unit offers the amplification needed to supply all 3 TV locations and the 120 foot cable run.
